Law Enforcement and medical personnel from Ellis and Hays responded to a report of a rollover vehicle accident in the 300 block of West Tenth Street in Ellis early Saturday morning.
The vehicle, a 1999 Chevrolet Blazer driven by an Ellis woman, sustained heavy damage and a power pole and power lines were also damaged. The woman refused medical treatment at the scene but was arrested for DUI and driving with a suspended license.
The initial report was a rollover accident with people trapped inside and power lines down on or near the vehicle. But, when officers arrived the woman was out of the vehicle and given a field sobriety test. Shortly there after the woman was arrested and then transported to the Ellis County Jail by Ellis Police and the Ellis County Sheriffs Office. She was subsequently transported to Qwest Diagnostics for blood chemical testing. She was then booked in to the Ellis County Jail for DUI-related offenses and the suspended drivers license. No bond amount is available at this time.
The Hays Police Department sent officers from Hays to assist the Ellis Police Department due to Ellis County Deputies being tied up on other calls. Law Enforcement remained on scene till shortly after 4 a.m. while Midwest Energy made repairs and Augies Towing of Hays removed the vehicle from the scene. It is unclear if any power outages were reported as a result of the accident.
Agencies that responded to the scene include the Ellis Police Department, Ellis County Sheriffs Office, Hays Police Department, Ellis County Emergency Medical Services, Ellis County Rural Fire Department, and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
The woman’s identity has not been released.
