A team of women at Fort Hays State University is asking you to clean out your closets for a good cause this week .
Seven students from Fort Hays State University’s Leadership 310 class are sponsoring a clothing drive this week for Jana’s Closet, a nonprofit organization providing professional, gently used clothing for women in need.
“There is a lot of need,” said team member Lizette Avalos. “Women are entering or re-entering the workforce and here in Hays. With the university, there will be a lot of people graduating soon and looking for a jobs, and many times when you are coming out of college, you can not afford professional clothing.
“If you do have clothes just sitting in your closet you don’t need anymore, they could really help a woman in need,” she added.
Through Friday, the community is encouraged to drop off professional and gently used clothing at the Department of Leadership Studies, Rarick Hall, room 235, or at Trinity Lutheran Church, 2703 Fort, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m.
The clothing drive will culminate in a “Women Helping Women” fashion show to “promote the diverse range of clothes that Jana’s Closet provides are for all different ages, sizes and seasons,” said team member Alexis Mesmer.
The event will begin at 4 p.m. Saturday in Cody Commons on the lower level of the Memorial Union, beginning with a “resume review.”
According to Mesmer, a FHSU marketing specialist will review resumes of those entering or re-entering the workforce and offer suggestions and advice for improvement.
The fashion show, free and open to the public, is scheduled to begin at 4:30 p.m.
