GODDARD, Kan. (AP) — Goddard city leaders have approved an agreement for a multimillion dollar sports complex in western Sedgwick County.
The council on Monday night voted in favor the $71 million complex, which would include a complex for national and state swimming competitions, four baseball fields, a 150-room hotel and retail and restaurant space.
KWCH-TV reports $25.4 million will come from STAR bonds, which will be paid back with sales tax from the district. The city will contribute about $1.25 million and the rest of the funding will be raised through private equity and investments.
The project still must be approved by the state.
