Officer-involved shooting on I-70 near Colby overnight UPDATE

Update  3 p.m. COLBYIn a news release, the Kansas Bureau of Investigation reported the suspects in Wednesday night’s officer-involved shooting in Sherman County were driving a stolen vehicle from Texas.

The pair, according to the KBI, were trying to sell sexual relations at Oasis Truck Stop in Colby.

The injured suspect was originally taken to Goodland Regional Medical Center. He was later flown to a Wichita Hospital.  The female suspect, Mary Virginia Derr, 33, Schertz, Texas, is being held in the Thomas County jail.

10 a.m.  COLBY—Law enforcement authorities were involved in an officer involved shooting Wednesday night.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported at approximately 9:53 p.m., a trooper assisted the Colby Police Department with a pursuit that entered Sherman County.

After several attempts to use stop sticks, the suspect vehicle stopped in the westbound ditch of I-70, at milepost 28. After the vehicle stopped, a male suspect, armed with a weapon, was shot. A female in the vehicle was arrested. The injured suspect was flown to a Wichita hospital with unknown injuries.

No officers were injured during this incident.

As standard practice and in accordance with Kansas Highway Patrol policy, the trooper has been placed on Administrative Leave while this case is being investigated. The Kansas Bureau of Investigation (KBI) has been notified and is conducting the investigation in this case.
