TOPEKA, Kan. (AP) — Kansas legislators are returning to the Statehouse to resume their 2014 session and complete work on remaining issues, including tidying up spending for the next fiscal year.

The House and Senate were to convene Wednesday morning with light agendas. The House Appropriations was scheduled to discuss spending for several state agencies, including more than $360 million for the Department of Corrections.

Much of the spending required for the budget year that starts July 1 was addressed before legislators broke for their three-week recess.

Gov. Sam Brownback has already signed a $129 million education bill to satisfy a Kansas Supreme Court decision on state aid to school districts. A lower court is scheduled to review the bill July 11 to determine if it complies with the high court’s ruling.
