SMITH CENTER — A Smith Center man was hospitalized after a single-vehicle accident at 5:55 p.m. Monday.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2002 Cadillac Escalade driven by William G. Hawes, 82, was southbound on U.S. 281 just south of Smith Center when the vehicle entered the west ditch and came to a stop on its wheels.

Hawes was not injured, but was transported to Smith County Hospital because of his medical history, the KHP reported.
