The Hays City Commission is expected to move forward with a reconstruction of 13th Street from Main to Milner streets at its regular meeting Thursday.

The meet is scheduled to begin at 6:30 p.m. at City Hall.
As recommended by staff, the project, estimated to cost approximately $1.84 million, will include repaving the street, upgrading water service and storm sewers, and replacing curbs and sidewalks on the stretch of roadway.
In other action at Thursday’s meeting, commissioners will consider allowing Western Kansas Skate Park Committee to begin soliciting funds to help pay for improvements at the skate park at Aubel-Bickle Park.
As proposed, the renovations could cost up to $250,000, and city staff is recommending allowing the group to begin fundraising to pay for the improvements.
Commissioners also will consider a series of mayoral appointments to boards and commissions, including: Airport Advisory Committee, Errol Wuertz; Hays Area Planning Commission, Justin McClung and Kris Munsch; Hays Beautification Committee, Dorothy McRae; Hays Public Library Board, David Goodlett and Kathleen Schukman.

The city’s representative on the board of the Ellis County Coalition for Economic Development also likely will change Thursday.
Commissioner Kent Steward has served on the board since 2013, and Mayor Henry Schwaller IV has offered to take his seat on the board.
