John C. Ginther

John C. Ginther, age 76, of Hays died Tuesday, October 25, 2011, at his home in Hays.

John was born February 18, 1935, in rural Graham County, Kansas to Ivan and Hazel (Stephen) Ginther. He was baptized into the United Brethren Church at an early age, later joining the Methodist Church. John married Bonnie Worcester on September 1, 1954. They each grew from birth to adulthood in the same Graham County farming community. They each graduated from Hill City Memorial High School.

John was a Kansas Independent Oil Producer. He enjoyed the outdoors, was fond of horses, and liked taking his family boating. He had lifelong interests in vocal music and agriculture.

Survivors include his wife of the home; three sons, Loren of Hays, Clay of Dodge City, and Les of Rio Rancho, New Mexico; three daughters, Lucy of Cincinnati, Ohio, Carmen of Laramie, Wyoming, and Carrie of Eden Prairie, Minnesota; three sisters, Alwyn Johnson of Sanibel, Florida, Sharon Lewis of Idaho Springs, Colorado, and Jerilyn Cannon of Iola, Kansas; three brothers, Verlyn of Garden City, Garland of Fulton, Ks., and Gary of Goodland, Kansas; 16 grandchildren and one great grandchild. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Darlene Brown.

Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 28, 2011, at the First United Methodist Church., seventh and ash in Hays. Burial will be in the Mt. Allen Cemetery in Hays. The family will receive friends on Friday from 12:30 p.m. until the service time at the church. A memorial has been established in his name and memory for the John C. Ginther High Plains Band and Orchestra Camp Scholarship Fund in care of the Hays Memorial Chapel Funeral Home, 20th and Pine. Condolences may be given to the family at www.haysmemorial.com
