Friday night’s Y102 Area Game of the Week features two unbeaten teams battling for a district championship. The Plainville Cardinals and the LaCrosse Leopards close out the regular season in a class 2A district 6 showdown in LaCrosse.

The Leopards and the Cardinals come into this week a perfect 8-0 and 3-0 in district play. The Leopards offense continues to shine averaging 445 yards per game, outscoring their first eight opponents 426-114.

Quarterback Tayler Stull is the leading rusher again this season with 836 yards and 755 yards through the air, totaling 28 touchdowns this season. Junior running back Levi Morss has 15 touchdowns and 826 yards rushing and Kip Keeley has 738 total yards and 8 touchdowns through eight games.

The Plainville Cardinals offense has been putting up great numbers this year as well. Averaging 44 points and 417 yards per game. The Cardinals have three running backs over 650 yards so far this season. Junior Trevor Axelson leads the way with 1,045 yards and 9 touchdowns. Harrison Gilliland has 746 yards and 12 touchdowns and Dalton Werner had 662 yards. The Cardinals have outscored opponents 354-88.

As good as the two offenses have been this season it has been the defenses that have really been getting it done. The LaCrosse defense is allowing 14 points per game and just 172 yards per game. After allowing 244 yards a game last season. Defensive end Dylan Engel has 11 sacks this season.

The Cardinal defense has been just as good, giving up 11 points and 219 yards per game through 8 games. Linebackers Andrew Casey and Nate Thyfault (TEE-FO) both have over 60 total tackles this season and Jameson Klein leads the team in sacks with 6.

The Leopards are looking to win this district for the second straight year while the Cardinals earned only their second winning season since 1994.

The winner of Friday night’s game will play the runner-up in district 5, Moundridge and the runner-up district 6 will play district 6 winner Sacred Heart.

Friday night’s Y102 Area Game of the Week features the 3rd ranked LaCrosse Leopards and the 4th ranked Plainville Cardinals. Kickoff is set for 7pm with the Pre-Game show beginning at 6:30 on the Country Bull Y102.
