Storm front drops short-lived tornados in central Kansas

BENNINGTON — A line of thunderstorms that brought heavy rains and gusty winds to central Kansas on Sunday evening also brought a couple of brief tornado touchdowns to Ottawa County.

According to the National Weather Service in Topeka, one tornado touched down a mile north of Bennington at 180th and Frontier Road.

The other brief tornado was 4 miles southwest of Bennington, where a couple of cottonwood trees were down across 170th Road and Kansas 18.

The twisters were reported at just after 7:30 p.m. by Ottawa County law enforcement.
