VICTORIA–St. Fidelis Catholic Church, Victoria, will be dedicated Saturday, June 7, as a minor basilica.

It will the first in Kansas and just the 78th in the United States.

The Salina Diocese made the application to the Vatican last summer, and Bishop Edward Weisenburger was notified this spring of the approval.

Weisenburger will dedicate the church, also known as the “Cathedral of the High Plains,” as a minor basilica during a 10:30a.m. Mass open to the public.

A free-will offering lunch will follow in the Victoria Elementary School.
