Roadwork scheduled to begin in Rawlins County

Three resurfacing projects will begin on June 16, weather permitting, the Kansas Department of Transportation has announced.

The first project is a 3-inch mill and 3.5-inch overlay from the Thomas County line to Atwood. The second project is an ultrathin bonded asphalt surfacing from Atwood to the Decatur County line. The final project is a 4-inch mill and 5-inch overlay from 10 miles west of Atwood to Atwood.

Traffic will be reduced to one lane and controlled by flaggers and a pilot car during daylight hours. Minor delays should be expected during construction, not exceeding 15 minutes. The Kansas Department of Transportation urges all motorists to be alert, obey the warning signs, and “Give ‘Em a Brake!” when approaching and driving through the construction zone.

KDOT awarded these construction contracts – totaling $8.9 million – to Venture Corp. These projects should be completed by early September, weather permitting.
