Trego County commissioners rescinded the county’s burn ban and fireworks ban Monday night in the aftermath of recent rains.

WAKEENEY–Trego County Commissioners voted unanimously Monday, June 9,  to rescind the outdoors burn ban and the ban on fireworks in Trego County.

According to Kathleen Fabrizius, the Trego County Emergency Manager, “even though the burn ban has been lifted, anyone that is burning outside of a trash barrel must call the Trego County Communications Office a to request permission to burn before it can be started.”

Certain conditions must be met before permission will be given, including wind speed and the fire index.

Anyone not following regulations may be subject to fines and prosecution.

Fabrizius said the Trego County Commission, along with Rural Fire Chief and Emergency Management, will continue to monitor conditions and the bans maybe reinstated at any time depending on conditions.

“The decision to allow fireworks will be revisited every week until July 4th and could be subject to immediate change due to environmental conditions,” she added.
