RUSSELL — A reported drug deal was stopped before it started Monday afternoon north of Russell.
According to a news release from Sheriff John Fletcher, deputies received an anonymous report that a “drug deal was about to happen” at the intersection of Highway 281 and Highway 18 north of Russell.
Russell County sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene where they waited for two suspect vehicles to arrive.
Officers approached the vehicles and began a roadside investigation with the assistance of the Rooks County Sheriff’s canine unit.
Methamphetamine and cash were discovered.
Lucas residents Cody Howler and Adam Hickman were both arrested for possession and distribution of methamphetamine. Russell resident Rachelle Thanker was arrested for possession of methamphetamine.
The three individuals were taken in for booking; both suspect vehicles were impounded.
Fletcher said the investigation is continuing.
