New Heartland Community Foundation executive director named

Tammy McClellan was named the new Executive Director of the Heartland Community Foundation at the June 10 Board of Director’s meeting. McClellan will begin serving in July following the retirement of Bob Lowen who served as Executive Director for four years.

McClellan was the founder and owner of Simply Charmed, a downtown Hays women’s boutique for 10 years until selling the establishment in 2013. She holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in journalism and mass communications from Kansas State University.

She currently serves on the board of the Hays Area Chamber of Commerce and volunteered as a board member with the Heartland Community Foundation for the past four years. McClellan and her husband Mike are the parents of four daughters and farm in Rooks and Graham counties.

New board members elected to a four-year term on the Heartland Community Foundation Board of Directors include: Bob Muirhead, Director of Economic and Community Development for Midwest Energy; Nikki Pfannenstiel, Manager of Member Services at Sunflower Electric Power Corporation; and Sally Lowry, Agent with Heritage Insurance Group with offices in Stockton, Phillipsburg, Logan and Palco, and on the board of Fusion Christian Youth Center in Stockton.

Muirhead returns as a Past Chairman of the Heartland Community Foundation board and currently serves on the Kansas Association of Community Foundations Board of Directors.

heartland USENew officers were elected to lead the HCF for a one-year term. Beginning in July, the new Board Chairman will be Brandon Prough, Bank of Hays Senior Vice President. Other newly elected officers include: Vice Chairman Susan Bowles, Executive Director of the Hays Area Children’s Center; Secretary Mendi Alexander, Economic Development and Networking Specialist at Nex-Tech; and Treasurer Steve Baumrucker, Partner at Adams, Brown, Beran and Ball.

Board members re-elected to serve a second term include Andrew Rupp, Executive Vice President and Treasurer at Insurance Planning, Inc.; Shae Veach, Vice-President of Regional Operations at Hays Medical Center; Mike Koerner, Systems/Operations Manager for Eagle Communications; and Steve Baumrucker, Partner at Adams, Brown, Beran and Ball.

The Heartland Community Foundation is a not-for-profit foundation whose mission is to build permanent endowments to benefit the people of Ellis, Rooks and Trego counties. The HCF is one of 12 affiliates of the Greater Salina Community Foundation.
