TOPEKA – The Kansas Department of Labor reported the May seasonally adjusted unemployment rate was 4.8 percent, unchanged from April and down from 5.6 percent in May 2013.
The jobless rate in Ellis County edged up slightly, from 2.3 percent in April to 2.4 percent in May. Unemployment throughout northwest Kansas is extremely low, with only Rush County’s 4.1 percent topping the 4 percent mark.
Logan and Greeley counties posted the state’s lowest unemployment rates at 2.2 percent.
The figures are drastically different on the other side of the state, with Wyandotte County reporting a statewide high of 7.8 percent unemployment and most of the eastern third of the state exceeding 5 percent.
