Hays USD 489’s newly created position of director of building and grounds will “improve efficiency” and “create more savings,” according to superintendent Dean Katt.
At Monday night’s Hays USD 489 Board of Education meeting, the board voted to terminate the position of supervisor of grounds and maintenance.
The position had long been been held by Francis Hammerschmidt, whose employment will be terminated at the end of the month.
In the same procedural transactions vote, the board voted to hire Rusty Lindsay, who will take the new director position.
“We were looking at more of a supervisory role,” Katt said. “A director who will oversea grounds, personnel issues, work-order systems … long-range planning and those type of things.”
Lindsay is buildings and grounds supervisor for Scott County USD 466.
Katt said Lindsay is expected to notify USD 466 today of his resignation and will start his new position in Hays approximately July 1.
