UPDATE:
According to a press release from Hays Fire Chief Gary Brown, the City of Hays Fire Department, supported by the Hays Police Department and Ellis County Emergency Medical Services, were dispatched to a structure fire at 2704 Hickory Street at 6:29 Wednesday evening.
On arrival, firefighters found a fire burning in a detached garage in the alley behind the dwelling.
The fire attack was delayed because of a malfunction of the fire truck electronic pump controls.
After the firefighters reconnected the fire hydrant supply hose to the next fire truck, the fire was quickly controlled by one hose stream.
Five fire trucks staffed by 19 firefighters responded.
There were no injuries, and damage was limited to the contents of the garage.
A fire investigation conducted by the Police Department, assisted by the Fire Department, determined that the cause of the fire was accidental, but the specific cause of the fire was not determined.
The last fire crews left the fire scene at 7:58 p.m.
