Great Bend state trooper arrested Thursday

GREAT BEND — State investigators took a Kansas Highway Patrol trooper into custody Thursday on a variety of charges.

Trooper Darrin Hirsh was arrested by the Kansas Bureau of Investigation on Thursday night on a warrant for aggravated assault, criminal threat, domestic battery, witness intimidation and violation of a protective order.

His bond was set at $50,000 and, according to the sheriff’s office, he has been released from the Barton County jail on bond.

The aggravated assault charge stems from a 2013 incident during which he allegedly threatened his wife with a handgun.

The patrol says Hirsh is on leave without pay pending an internal investigation.
