Monarchs win streak comes to an end

The Hays Monarchs drop a pair of games to the MW Bruins Saturday at the Wild West Fest tournament, snapping their 10-game win streak. Bruins win the first contest 12-1 then turn around and win 4-2 in the quarterfinals ending the Monarchs run at 2-2. They are now 14-5 on the season.

The Monarchs fell behind 6-0 after two innings in the first game. Hays was held to just two hits and scored their lone run on Grant Romme’s RBI single in the third inning. Cameron Brin takes the loss, allowing seven runs (4 earned) on four hits over 4 1/3 innings. Brin walked eight and struck out none.

In the tournament quarterfinals, the Bruins took advantage of four Monarchs errors in the second game, scoring single runs in the first, fourth, fifth and sixth. Only one of the runs was earned. Liam Stults takes the loss, allowing one unearned run on six hits over six innings, striking out three and walking six. Kameron Schmidt and Dick Hockett both had two hits.

The Monarchs are off until Thursday when they travel to Great Bend for a doubleheader.
