SALINA- A Salina business could be out more than $20,000 after a phone scam Wednesday evening.

Salina Police Captain Jim Norton said the new CVS pharmacy at Ohio and Crawford received a phone call from a man who identified himself as an employee at CVS corporate headquarters.

The caller, who Norton described as having a Middle Eastern accent, said there was a computer problem that affected the Vanilla Visa and Green Dot cash cards sold on Tuesday at the store.

The man said the cards would need to be replaced by new cards and had the local employee give the scratch-off codes from the back of cards worth $20,880.

By 10:30p.m., a local CVS manager determined the call was not from the corporate office. Police were notified on Thursday morning.
