TOPEKA – The Kansas Department of Health and Environment has issued an Emergency Order of Suspension to a day care home in Manhattan licensed under the name Aunt Lesa’s Daycare.
On Monday, Dr. Robert Moser, secretary of the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, reviewed the file on the day care home operated by Lesa Marie Heiman.
According to the state’s order of suspension, the KDHE received a complaint alleging Heiman dropped an infant after his head hit a ceiling fan while Heiman was holding the child above her.
She reported that on April 14, while she was holding the infant above her head, the ceiling fan struck the infant’s head causing Heiman to drop the infant, who hit the couch, then fell to the floor. On the same day, the infant was left unattended on a couch, resulting in the infant falling off the couch. Heiman failed to notify parents immediately after the first incident or seek medical attention for the infant.
State law allows the secretary of KDHE to issue such an order when, in the opinion of the secretary, the order is necessary to protect children in the home from any potential threat to health or safety. The order is subject to appeal.
