Overnight showers offer up welcome August precipitation

Ellis County received yet another refreshing summer rain overnight Wednesday, with reports of up to 0.76 inches southwest of Hays.

North of Ellis, there was a report of 0.62 inches, although most reports from Hays ranged from a tenth to two-tenths of an inch. The K-State Ag Research Center reported 0.3 inches in the gauge Thursday morning.

Most northwest Kansas counties benefited from the overnight front, with the most significant precipitation — 0.93 inches — falling in western Graham County.

The National Weather Service is calling for a chance of additional showers late Thursday, continuing into Friday morning.
