USD 489 board of education members will discuss the upcoming FY15 budget hearing and a revised building based budget at Monday’s work session.

The board must establish maximum expenses for all district funds and the final budget must be submitted to the Kansas Department of Education by August 25.

According to Financial Director Tracy Kaiser, she has been working diligently to provide financial reports that make a “complicated” school budget easier to decipher by board members and the public.

The latest financial report is available on the USD 489 website here.

The district’s website also provides an average salary report (salary plus benefits) and expense summary graphs for public view as well.

The budget hearing is scheduled for the August 18 regular school board meeting.

Also at Monday’s work session, USD 489 director of curriculum Shana Dinkel will also report on enrollment projections and provide an update on planned events to kick off the new school year.

Other topics at Monday’s work session include discussion on final approval of a sales contract to sell district property located at 33rd and Hall streets to Hays developer John Zeigler who plans to utilize the 7-acre piece of land for housing development.

The board will also discuss televising work sessions and financial director Kaiser will present the latest job descriptions for positions available at USD 489.

The meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the Rockwell Administration Center, 323 W. 12 Street.
