The officers of the Hays Police Department will be conducting a nighttime seatbelt enforcement event Wednesday, August 20, according to Sgt. Mitch Berens.
The event will be conducted from approximately 8:45 p.m. to 12:45 a.m. Officers will focus on the areas of 13th and Main Street and 13th and Vine Street, Berens said in a news release.
Statistics show that seatbelt usage significantly decreases during nighttime hours. The purpose of this event is to enforce seatbelt and child restraint laws during nighttime hours.
The Kansas Department of Transportation Nighttime Seatbelt Enforcement Program funds the program.
