High school students from across Kansas are in Hays to compete in Thursday’s annual Fort Hays State University’s Math Relays.
About 600 students from 45 high schools are participating this year, according to Bill Weber, instructor of mathematics and computer sciences at FHSU.
Students take a series of tests over algebra, geometry, number sense, applications, trigonometry and calculations with calculators. The tests can be taken by individuals or by teams of three, with each student working for one-third of the time.
Awards areĀ presented to the top three places in the individual and team categories for each grade level and in each test.
The top three schools overall will also get awards based on the points they earn in their Kansas State High School Activities Association classification. Divisions are 1A; 2A to 3A; and 4A to 6A.
