WaKeeney approves 2015 budget

wakeeney city logoWAKEENEY–In a short meeting August 19, WaKeeney city council members voted to approve the 2015 budget following the public hearing. There were no public comments.

RECORD OF THE PROCEEDINGS OF THE GOVERNING BODY 19 AUGUST 2014
The Governing Body of the City of WaKeeney, Kansas met in a regular session at City Hall 408 Russell Ave at 7:00 PM with the Mayor presiding and the following members present:
Mayor Kenneth Roy and Council Members Mary Jo Clevenger, Irene Dirks, Troy Leiker, Lynelle Shubert, and Allen Weigel
BEING ABSENT: None
The minutes of the previous meeting were approved as written, printed and distributed.
GUESTS: Dr. Robert Clark, John Kuhn, Abraham Pfannenstiel, Audra Berquist, Shaylee Flax, Macy Mattheyer, Kassidy Chase, Josie Molitor, Kat Munch, Kacie Dunn, Brandi Fritts, Molly Moden, Bryn Hafliger, Diane Wagner, Emily Buchholz, Tanner Townley, Emarie Schoenthaler, Terry Eberle, Charlie Knoll, Elyssa Carr, Mikayla Cody, Shawnee Phillips, and Janelle Miller.

The Governing Body held a public hearing for the city’s 2015 budget. After receiving no comment from the public concerning the proposed budget, Irene Dirks motioned to approve the 2015 city budget. Allen Weigel seconded. Motion carried.

Dr. Robert Clark was present before the City Council to discuss the recent annexation of his property on N. 8th Street. After a lengthy discussion, Irene Dirks motioned to amend the annexation to include only the south 250 feet of the Clark’s property. Lynelle Shubert seconded. Motion carried. Dr. Clark was thanked by the Governing Body and took his leave.

CHIEF OF POLICE: Terry Eberle provided his monthly departmental report. Chief Eberle presented an attorney fee agreement contract with Giefer Law Office for the collection of drug forfeiture cases in district court. After a discussion and review of the agreement, Mary Jo Clevenger motioned to approve the agreement. Troy Leiker seconded. Motion carried.
CITY ADMINISTRATOR: City Administrator Hardy Howard presented an annexation ordinance for the Bosselman Energy property. A motion was made by Lynelle Shubert and seconded by Irene Dirks to approve ordinance #1437. Motion carried.
Nuisance property abatements procedures where again discussed at length by the City Council. A motion was made by Irene Dirks and seconded by Lynelle Shubert to proceed to the next step in the abatement process. Voting YES Dirks and Shubert. Voting NO Clevenger, Leiker, and Weigel. Motion failed 2-3.
The City Administrator presented resolution #08192014 concerning the city’s 2014 audit. A motion was made by Irene Dirks and seconded by Mary Jo Clevenger to approve the GAAP waiver resolution. Motion carried.

No further business appearing, the meeting was adjourned.
