Five hospitalized after SUV hits cow in Rooks County

Screen Shot 2014-07-03 at 5.13.15 AMPLAINVILLE — Five people were injured in an accident just after 6 p.m. Sunday in Rooks County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2008 Chevy Suburban driven by Jaynelle R. McCreery, 56, Phillipsburg, was southbound on U.S. 183 five miles south of the U.S. 24 Junction. The vehicle hit a cow that entered the roadway from the west ditch.

The Suburban ended up facing southbound, and the cow ended up in west ditch.

McCreery and passengers Ronald Alan McCreery, 63; Carson Meitl, 8; Kaitlyn McCreery, 4; and Andrew Meitl, 11, all of Phillipsburg, were transported to the Rooks County Hospital, the KHP said.

The KHP reported all were properly restrained at the time of the accident.
