Fire Condition Warnings Persist

Drier conditions going into fall and winter this year merit greater attention toward preventing wildfire outbreaks. A fire prevention specialist with the Kansas Forest Service, Jason Hartman, points out that a lighter fuel load doesn’t always mean a less likely chance that a fire will occur.

Hartman says producers should expect warmer and drier patterns throughout the winter months. Fall is a good time of year to remove thatch for a fire break to lessen the danger.
