Jake Stoppel and Dom Samac both had double-doubles and Craig Nicholson scored 25 points in his hometown leading the Fort Hays State Tigers to a hard fought 82-75 win over Newman Tuesday night at Fugate Gymnasium in Wichita. The win is the Tigers third straight and improves them to 3-2. Newman loses for the first time after beating Emporia State and Washburn at home to start the season.

The Tigers built an early four-point lead but the Jets answered with a 14-2 run to go up eight. They would build the lead to nine before FHSU rallied to take the lead late in the first half. Reggie Baker’s 3-pointer appeared to give Newman the halftime lead but Achoki Moikobu hit a 75-foot shot at the horn to put the Tigers up 41-39 at the half.

Fort Hays State never trailed in the second half, leading by as many as 10.
Dom Samac scored 14 points and grabbed 11 rebounds. Jake Stoppel added 11 points and 11 boards. Reggie Baker scored 30 to lead Newman.
