Turning Kansas Wheat into Bread-In-A-Bag

Children in the after-school programs in Hays are learning where the bread comes from for their pb&j sandwiches.

Students in the Fort Hays State University Agriculture Department’s “Cereal, Fiber and Oil Crops” class taught by Dr. Jean Gleichsner, are doing some teaching of their own.  The college students are working in pairs to present Bread in a Bag” programs to elementary students the next two weeks.

The youngsters are learning about wheat production and agriculture in Kansas while they also have the opportunity to make a loaf of bread.

Funding for the project comes from a grant by the Kansas Farm Bureau Ag Foundation.
