Do not be alarmed if you seeĀ a uniformed member of the Hays Police Department and the Hays Fire Department outside Walmart this weekend.
Chief of Police Don Scheibler and Hays Fire Department Chief Gary Brown will be ringing the bells from 8 a.m. to noon Saturday for the Salvation Army’s annual Red Kettle Campaign.
Both men have participated in the fundraising event for years.
“It is an opportunity for the fire chief and I to go out and help the Salvation Army, which helps so many people,” Scheibler said. “We welcome the opportunity.”
One year, he said he took his sons with them and they sang Christmas carols while ringing the bells.
Will Scheibler and Brown sing Christmas Carols together?
“No, I don’t think so,” Scheibler said with a laugh.
Ashley Allen, coordinator of the Ellis County Salvation Army, said all funds raised go toward an emergency assistance fund to help those in need.
