The Hays High Lady Indians held Kearney to seven first half points, using an 18-5 second quarter run to go up 14 then held off a Bearcat four quarter rally for a 38-30 win in the opening round of the 29th annual Hays City Shoot Out Thruday night.
Kearney pulled within eight and had the ball the the Indians never let them get any closer.
Hays wins despite 29 turnovers.
Paige Lunsford and Katelyn Shumacher each scored 10.
Hays High will now face Riley County in the winners bracket semifinals Friday at 7:30pm at the Hays High Gym.
