GREAT BEND – Barton County Sheriff’s Deputies are investigating an accident that occurred just before 3 a.m. on New Year’s Day east of Great Bend.

Officers reported a 2005 Ford F 150 driven by David F. Velasco, 24, Great Bend, was eastbound on Northeast 3rd Road. The vehicle was traveling too fast for road conditions. The driver failed to negotiate a curve at the intersection of Northeast 27 Avenue.

The vehicle traveled off the road and struck a tree.
Velasco was transported to a Wichita hospital. Passengers in the vehicle Jordan L. Haney, 21, Howard D. Johnson, 25, both of Great Bend, and Ryan A. Ward, 24, Ellinwood, were transported to Great Bend Regional Medical Center.

Charges may be pending following the investigation according to the Sheriff’s office.
