ANTHONY, Kan. (AP) — A 78-year-old southern Kansas woman has been found guilty of obstructing police and resisting arrest in connection with a building she lived in that the city deemed unsafe.

The Hutchinson News reported Monday that a jury found Rosalea Hostetler guilty on two misdemeanor counts.

The Harper City Council in June passed a resolution that declared a former hotel building that Hostetler lived in as a dangerous structure and an immediate hazard.

Police Chief Douglas Murphy says he handed Hostetler the resolution that barred her from entering. But he testified he let her inside to get her purse and pets out of compassion for her situation.

A police officer who accompanied Murphy says Hostetler made a phone call inside her home when she was told not to and arrested her.
