Kan. shooting suspect charged with second-degree murder

jail prisonWINFIELD, Kan. (AP) — The suspect in a fatal shooting at a Winfield bar is charged with second-degree murder and two misdemeanors.

Forty-two-year-old Timothy Eugene Boyd is charged with killing 32-year-old Derrick D. Higgins early New Year’s Day at Hot Shotz bar in Winfield. Investigators say the shooting occurred after the men argued at the bar.

Boyd’s preliminary hearing was set for Jan. 26.

The Winfield Daily Courier reports that Boyd remains in custody at the Cowley County Jail on $500,000 bond.
