Mental evaluation ordered for Kan. woman charged in son’s death

court WELLINGTON, Kan. (AP) — A judge has ordered a competency evaluation for a Kansas woman who is charged with fatally beating and stabbing her 10-year-old son while he was in bed.

The Wichita Eagle  reports that a Sumner County judge granted the request Thursday for a mental evaluation for 33-year-old Lindsey Nicole Blansett of Wellington. Her attorney requested the testing to determine whether Blansett is legally able to stand trial on a charge of first-degree murder in the Dec. 14 death of her son, Caleb.

The criminal complaint filed in the case says that Blansett decided that Caleb’s “life would be full of suffering and it would be better for him to go to heaven.” She is accused of striking him with a rock and stabbing him with a knife multiple times.
