WASHINGTON, D.C. – The House of Representatives voted on Friday to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline Act with bipartisan support 266-153-1. Congressman Tim Huelskamp (KS-01) again supported the legislation which will now go to the Senate for its approval. This vote comes following the Friday morning decision by the Nebraska Supreme Court to clear the way for the construction to move forward pending the President’s approval. Congressman Huelskamp released the following statement:
For too long President Obama has put his ideology and politics above the needs of the American people. By refusing to approve the Keystone XL Pipeline, the President continues to deny good-paying jobs to tens of thousands of Americans.
“While the Kansas section of the pipeline is already constructed, building the remaining components could create directly up to an estimated 20,000 American jobs and potentially 118,000 spin-off jobs. Further, the NCRA refinery expansion already underway in McPherson is a $327 million investment made in part to take advantage of the Keystone XL project.
“With this bill and vote, Congressman Huelskamp is taking the lead in the creation of American jobs, acquiring access to friendly and secure sources of energy, and moving one step closer to energy independence.
