Suspected hit-and-run at Hays business causes thousands in damage

Employees of Clean Rite Janitorial Service and Supply, 1307 Vine, arrived to work Monday morning to find a hole on the south side of the building.

The Hays Police Department is investigating the incident.

“Apparently someone backed into the building and failed to report it,” Clean Rite manager Chris Chesner said, adding it is not the first time a vehicle backed into their building.

Chesner said a similar incident occurred two years ago and caused $2,000 dollars in damage.

She estimated the latest damage will cost more than $4,000 or more to fix.

According to Chesner, employees were working Saturday afternoon until around 2 p.m. and did not recall seeing any damage.

“The best we know, it may have happened anytime between about 2 p.m. Saturday and 7:30 (Monday) morning,” Chesner said.

Clean Rite is located to the north of Kwik Shop, 1301 Vine, separated by an alley next to the convenience store parking lot.
