HUTCHINSON, Kan. — Despite the bitterly cold temperatures and strong north winds, about 50 people were in front of Morgan Elementary School for their support rally.
Some parents who have children at that school have been upset with how the district has responded to complaints about a disruptive student and bullying.
Those attending were holding signs that read “Morgan School Rocks, We Support Teachers, they rock and Bully Free Zone.”
School officials said in a note to parents on Friday that they respect the rights of individuals to peacefully assemble, but took precautions just the same saying they also must ensure that they have a safe learning environment.
The school had a lock-down for two hours, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The noon recess for students was held inside
Parents were also allowed to keep their children at home, considered an excused absence.
Police were also present with patrol cars at each end of the 27th Street.
Police Lt. John Moore said the rally was a pretty quiet event with no issues for police.
