TOPEKA — The Kansas Center for Economic Growth announced Tuesday that Duane Goossen, former Kansas budget director, will join its staff.
Goossen was a member of the Kansas House of Representatives from 1983 to 1997 and served as state budget director for 12 years under three governors: Republican Bill Graves and Democrats Kathleen Sebelius and Mark Parkinson.
The Kansas Center for Economic Growth is a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that conducts research and analysis on state policies that affect the prosperity of Kansans.
“Adding Duane’s wealth of expertise and knowledge to the Kansas Center for Economic Growth will allow the organization to continue to be a valuable resource of credible, fact-based information for policymakers, media and Kansans,” said Annie McKay, the center’s executive director.
Goossen will contribute to the center’s research and analysis, focusing on the state’s budget issues. He most recently was vice president for fiscal and health policy at the Kansas Health Institute, the parent organization of the editorially independent KHI News Service.
State income tax cuts enacted at Gov. Sam Brownback’s urging have slowed revenue collections and created a $280 million hole in the current year’s budget.
