SALINA – Law enforcement authorities in Salina are investigating the discovery of a body in a creek on Thursday evening.

The body was discovered in the 1700 Block of North 5th Street behind the Pilot/Bosselman Travel Center.

John Mattison, who found the body, was on the bridge disposing of a deer carcass when he noticed the body. “I looked down and I thought it looked like a body so I grabbed my binoculars,” he said.

Mattison checked the man’s pulse, realized he was dead and called 911 just after 5 p.m.

Law enforcement has released no additional details.
