Garden City 45 – Hays 24
Garden City used a 6-0 and 10-0 run in the second quarter, making a one point ball game after the first quarter, a fifteen point game by half time. Hays opened up the second half with a Summer Smith three pointer and two Mattison Schlaefli free throws to trim the lead down to 10, but never got any closer.
Highlights
Hays falls to 3-6 and 0-3 in conference play. Garden City is now 6-5 and 2-2 in the league. Hays will be at home on Tuesday in a girls only game taking on conference leader Dodge City.

Boys
Garden City 58 – Hays 46
All was good through the first quarter. Hays scored the first seven points of the game and led by nine on two different occasions. Hays led after the first quarter 16-10, but Garden City reversed that score using a 10-2 run to tie the game by half time at 26.
Highlights
Hays took the lead to open the second half on a Brady Werth dunk at 28-26. Isaiah Nunnery then added a three point play to give Hays a 31-30 lead. Garden City would respond with a 13-2 run and lead by 12 after three quarters. The Indians got with in seven at 49-42, but failed to score on the next three possessions. Hays made one last push to get within five 49-44, but Garden City made 9 of 10 free throws over the final 53 seconds.
Hays falls to 7-2 and 2-1 in the WAC. Garden City has won four in a row and is 7-4 and 4-0.

Brady Werth scored a game high 21 while Nunnery added 15. Werth is now third all time in scoring at Hays High, passing Jason Ball and Justin Johnson. Werth’s 950 points are two behind Bill Giles and 75 behind the all-time leading scorer Matt Stramel.
Hays is off until next Thursday when they open play in the Colby Orange and Black Classic.
