Ronnie Ray Welch, age 61, of Plainville passed away Wednesday, January 14th, 2015, at Via Christi Nursing Home in Hays after a short battle with cancer.

He was born February 27th, 1953, in Hutchinson, Kansas, to Ray and Virginia (Dupus) Welch. He graduated from Plainville High School in 1971 and earned a Business Administration degree from Salina Area Technical College.

For many years, Ron owned and operated Welch’s Greenhouse in Norton Kansas and could frequently be seen in the Plainville Flower shop helping his parents with their business before they retired. For the last few years Ron had worked for DSNWK. While he complained constantly about this job, he loved what he did and had a huge spot in his heart for the guys he worked with. Ron also enjoyed spending time with his family, annoying his neighbors, ordering satellite pay per views, sweatpants and flip-flops.

He is survived by his father, Ray Welch of Hays; a son, Heath Welch of Manhattan; a niece, Tiffany Becker and Husband Shaun of Logan.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Virginia; a brother, Randy; and a son, Lucas.
Memorial services will be held at 1PM on Saturday, January 31st, 2015 at Via Christi Village Chapel at 2225 Canterbury Dr, Hays, KS 67601.

The family has requested that memorials be made to the Ron Welch Memorial Fund and sent to Ron’s home at 807 S. Jefferson, Plainville, KS 67663.
