KHP: Driver was texting, hospitalized after crash

Screen Shot 2014-07-03 at 5.13.15 AMGARDEN CITY – A Kansas man was injured in an accident just before 9 p.m. on Tuesday in Finney County.

The Kansas Highway Patrol reported a 2013 Chrysler 200 driven by Jeffrey Humiston, 39, Offerle, was northbound on U.S. 50 just south of Mary Street.

The driver was texting and went off the right side of the roadway.

The vehicle then traveled in the ditch for 900 feet, struck an obstruction and went airborne. The vehicle came to rest in the westbound lane of the road facing northwest.

Humiston was transported to St. Catharine’s Hospital.
The KHP reported he was properly restrained at the time of the accident.
