Wheelchairs’ Tax Abatement Approved Again

The City of Hays last year approved a property tax abatement for the Wheelchairs of Kansas expansion in the Hays Industrial Park. However because the application did not include personal property, the state won’t accept it. The property is being leased, and so the company has included equipment in a second application to meet the state’s requirement.

City Manager Toby Dougherty says the abatement will be done on a sliding scale to meet the city’s economic development policy.

Saying they appreciate the investment in the community, the city commission approved the new application for a property tax abatement Thursday night.
