Another sure sign Christmas is near, the appearance of colorful poinsettia plants in homes and offices.
Ellis County KSU Extension Horticulture Agent Holly Dickman says poinsettias are beautiful houseplants that require a little TLC to keep them vibrant during the holidays. She offers the following tips:
- Native to Mexico, poinsettias like sunlight and should be placed in a bright location.
- The room temperature should be kept between 65 and 75 degrees.
- Overwatering and underwatering are the two most common mistakes. Stick your finger a half inch into the plant soil. If it’s dry, water with lukewarm water and don’t let the roots stand in water.
