WAKEENEY — After 28 years in the Trego Community school district, Principal Myron Flax is stepping down at the end of the school year.

Flax, who has served as high school principal for the last three years, submitted his resignation to the USD 208 school board last week.
Flax told Hays Post he has accepted the head football coaching position and will teach physical education at St. Marys High School.
Before stepping down as the head football coach in 2013 to take over as principal, Flax coached football at Trego for 15 years.
One of the main reasons for taking the job St. Marys, according to Flax, was that his son is a fifth-grade teacher at the school and will join him on his staff.
Flax said he has enjoyed being in WaKeeney for so many years, but he missed coaching and teaching high school students.
“It’s been a great place. I have absolutely no regrets for coming to WaKeeney and being in WaKeeney for all these years,” he said. “It’s been our home.”
Flax’s contract at Trego ends June 15.
