The Fort Hays State Lady Tigers opened the second half with a 12-2 run to build a 16-point lead and never let Missouri Western any closer than 12 and defeat the Griffons 70-48 Saturday afternoon at Gross Coliseum.
The Tigers shot just 30-percent in the first half and led 27-21 at the break, but used runs of 12-2, 11-3 and 14-2 to go up as many as 24 in the second half.
The Lady Tigers shoot just 35-percent for the game including 9-24 from 3-point range. They hit 15-of-17 free throws and outrebound Missouri Western by 24.
Melissa Nelson came off the bench to lead the Tigers in scoring with 15 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Kate Edwards added 14 points and 11 boards while Traci Keyser scored 13.
FHSU improves to 8-1 and 2-1 in the MIAA. The Griffons ar e2-6 and 0-4 in the conference.
