The Fort Hays State Tigers scored the first six points of the game then went on a 15-0 first half run to lead by as many 29 in the first half, beating the Missouri Western Griffons 66-53 Saturday afternoon at Gross Coliseum.
The Tigers used a 15-0 run, holding the Griffons without a field goal for over 10 minutes in the first half and led 41-17 at the half.
FHSU turned the ball over 19 turnovers resulting in 21 Griffon turnovers. The 13 point margin at the end was the closest MWSU could get in the second half.
Markus Yarbough led two Tigers in double-figures with 11 points. Karron McKenzie added 10. FHSU shot 46-percent from the floor, hit 5-of-15 3’s and 17-of-20 from the free throw line.
The game was played in front of members of the 1996 undefeated national championship team which was inducted into the Tiger Sports Hall of Fame along with their head coach Gary Garner.
FHSU improves to 8-1 and 2-1 in the MIAA.
